We take a φ10 mm, 40Cr material, HRC 35 slotted shaft as an example. The double shear failure load is ≥25 kN. This force is enough for excavator links or hydraulic cylinder ears. The outer diameter tolerance can be h6, h7, g6, or m6. That is ±0.005 mm to ±0.020 mm.

The outer diameter tolerance can be h6, h7, g6, or m6. That is ±0.005 mm to ±0.020 mm. Surface roughness is Ra≤0.8 μm. h6 is for high precision locating or sliding fits. g6 is for rotating fits with some gap. m6 is for interference fits. Those parts do not come out after installation. We make three types of shafts. Plain shafts are for excavator links and hydraulic cylinder ears. Slotted shafts work with a cotter pin or a retaining ring. This lets you remove the joint. Knurled shafts press into plastic handles or aluminum housings. They work as fixed rotation shafts. The slot width tolerance is ±0.05 mm. The knurl depth is 0.2 to 0.4 mm. The knurled section length is 5 to 15 mm. The knurled outer diameter is 0.1 to 0.3 mm bigger than the base diameter.
